About this experience

What you will be doing.

approx. 90 min

At the Arimatsu-Narumi Shibori Kaikan (Shibori Museum), the history and the techniques of shibori are laid out plainly, with the real thing in front of you. The demonstrations by the museum’s artisans are not to be missed.

The ground-floor showroom gathers the whole world of Arimatsu Shibori into one room, and a wide range of shibori goods is on sale there. Upstairs, the workshop room runs hands-on classes for anyone who would like one, so you can step into shibori without any preparation at all.

With a dyer keeping up a lively commentary as they guide your hands, you fold, clamp and dye a tenugui or a gauze handkerchief in sekka shibori.
