About this experience

What you will be doing.

approx. 90 min

Among Nagoya’s volunteer tourism guides, it is Arimatsu Anaibito no Kai who show visitors around this shibori town, where the mood of the Edo period is still close at hand. Members trained to guide in English lead the walk, which lasts about 90 minutes.

We meet in front of the ticket gates at Arimatsu Station. From there you walk the historic streets of the Tokaido with your guide, and go inside the Oka House. You can also try the popular stamp activity, made from ukiyo-e prints of Arimatsu on the Tokaido.

If you like, you can wear a happi coat of Arimatsu Anaibito no Kai for the tour — children’s sizes too. It makes for a photograph that looks as though you had slipped back into Edo-period Arimatsu.
